Mary Loudon

Mary Loudon is the author of four non-fiction books: Relative Stranger: A Sister’s Life After Death; Secrets & Lives: Middle England Revealed; Revelations: The Clergy Questioned and Unveiled: Nuns Talking. She has also contributed essays and poetry to six anthologies.

Her first novel, My House is Falling Down was published in May 2019 by Picador.

Mary has won four writer’s prizes, and was short- and long-listed for the MIND Book of the Year award, and the Richard and Judy Book of the Year award, respectively, for Relative Stranger. She has been a judge for the Whitbread Prize and the Costa Book Awards, and is a Fellow of the British American Project. She is a popular social and cultural commentator and has chaired or taken part in many public discussions in London, Oxford, Paris, New York, Washington, and at the Hay-on-Wye, Edinburgh, Cheltenham and Oxford literary festivals.

Mary has made over 200 radio and television appearances on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, ABC and Sky: the vast majority of them have been for the BBC arts and comment programmes.

Mary’s UK non-fiction publishers are Random House, Penguin, Macmillan and Canongate. Her fiction publisher is Picador. Her books have been published in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal and Norway.

Mary was born in November 1966 and lives with her family in Oxfordshire and mid-Wales.
