Robin Choudhury

Robin Choudhury is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Oxford University, a Fellow of Balliol College and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

In 2013, he led a project using magnetic resonance imaging to test Leonardo da Vinci’s 500-yr old hypothesis on the passage of blood across the aortic valve. With the Ashmolean Museum, he organised “The Heart in Art” a symposium on depictions of the heart, and he has spoken on the same subject at numerous arts festivals. He is a contributor to The Spectator health section.

He is author of 200 scientific articles and book chapters; many on new ways to image the cardiovascular system, including at the level of molecules. Research from his laboratory has won numerous awards: from the American Heart Association; The Royal Society of Medicine and the British Cardiovascular Society, among others. He lectures widely.

He is a practising interventional cardiologist with expertise in the emergency treatment of heart attack and is Director of the Oxford Acute Vascular Imaging Centre – a unique facility for clinical research in patients suffering heart attack and stroke.

He trained in medicine at Oxford University, and in London and undertook his doctoral research at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.
