Garrett Carr shortlisted for Best Book of the Year in debut fiction by the British Book Awards 2026

We are pleased to announce that Garrett Carr's The Boy from the Sea has been shortlisted for Best Book of the Year in debut fiction by the British Book Awards 2026!

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 11 May 2026 at JW Marriott Grosvenor House.

The Boy from the Sea was published in 2025 by Picador and became a Sunday Times Best Book of the Year and an Observer Best Debut of the Year. The paperback was published in January 2026 and was a Waterstones Book of the Month in February 2026.
