Manya Wilkisnon wins the Wingate Literary Prize 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Manya Wilkinson is the winner of the Wingate Literary Prize 2025 for her novel Lublin.

Lublin was published by And Other Stories in 2024 and was described by the judges as a “wholly unique coming of age novel, fusing fable, history and Jewish joke-making, set against the backdrop of the oncoming darkness of the 20th century”.

"Choosing one winner was not a simple process, and there was much impassioned debate; all of us judges absolutely stand behind each of these titles. But in the end only one book can triumph, and Manya Wilkinson’s Lublin was the book that surprised us most, astonished us most, left the most lingering impression in all of our minds."

Commenting on the win on X, historian Simon Schama praised Lublin:

"Absolutely delighted to see that Manya's. Wilkinson's GLORIOUS novel, Lublin has won @Wingateprize - many many mazaltovs. I hope it will get the huge readership it deserves - a novel for the ages by an absolutely spectacular writer."

The Wingate Prize is awarded to the best book, fiction or non-fiction, to convey the idea of Jewishness to the general reader.

Manya was announced as the winner at an event at Kings Place as part of Jewish Book Week on 8 March 2025.
