Home from England

Published by Orion on 8th May 1995

Seen through the eyes of a young boy growing up in the Irish countryside in the 1960s, Home from England gently, humourously exopses the foolishness of hanging onto the past – real or imagined: the father returning home to a hero’s medal for his part in a freedom fight he was too young to remember, his daughters dancing in their Irish costumes to the sounds of rock ‘n’ roll. More than anything, it is a novel about coming home, about the pain of the emigrant who returns to find the world he left behind had changed in his absence.
