First trailer drops for Leonie Frieda's adapted biography of Catherine de Medici, The Serpent Queen, starring Samantha Morton

On 28 July, ET exclusively shared the first trailer for 'The Serpent Queen' starring Samantha Morton (Minority Report, Harlots, The Walking Dead) as one of history’s most powerful and poisonous women, Catherine de Medici.

This new historical drama is adapted from Leonie Frieda’s remarkable biography, Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France, originally published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in 2004, and praised by many. Amanda Foreman in The Observer stated: ‘This intelligent and well-researched biography of her is a worthy testament to Catherine’s formidable strength. Catherine de Medici reveals Frieda, a first-time biographer, to be a writer of tremendous talent and skill.’

ET praises executive producer Justin Haythe for the fresh and contemporary spin given to the historical drama, which turns the genre and conventional royal story telling on its head. 'The Serpent Queen' is 'a royal drama unlike any that you’ve seen before on TV', set to air on 11 September 2022.
