We are very pleased to announce that ALBERT AND THE WHALE: Albrecht Dürer and How Art Imagines Our World by Philip Hoare has been shortlisted for the PEN/Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award for Biography 2022.
The award is for excellence in the art of biography with the winning title considered by the judges to be a work of exceptional literary, narrative, and artistic merit, based on scrupulous research.
This year’s judges — Luke Dittrich, Paul Golob, and Imani Perry — commented how Hoare’s book ‘truly resonated with them’.
Other finalists include: The Invention of Miracles: Language, Power, and Alexander Graham Bell’s Quest to End Deafness by Katie Booth (Simon & Schuster), All the Frequent Troubles of Our Days: The True Story of the American Woman at the Heart of the German Resistance to Hitler by Rebecca Donner (Little Brown and Company), The Gambler Wife: A True Story of Love, Risk, and the Woman Who Saved Dostoyevsky by Andrew D.
